Fragmented Narration is the second part of Rephrasing Memory, a curatorial research project that involves a group of Dutch, Colombian, Brazilian, English and German artists. The main theme in their work is the narrative influenced by memory connected to a sense of society. Memory functions as a fragmented narrative with missing pieces. When one remembers, their memories alternate between imagination and perception. In between the state of remembering and recognizing actual scenes a certain atmosphere is created. The work is connected through hidden shapes, invisibility, migration and cultural influences;

'A missing link that relates the whole narration. The lost object that might be the piece that connects everything like a puzzle. Someone who appears suddenly and then disappears without reference'. The exhibition Rephrasing Memory has been exhibited in 2013 at Amsterdams Centrum voor Fotografie (ACF) in Amsterdam, the WTC Gallery and the Mirta Demare Gallery in Rotterdam and Estudio Lamina in São Paulo. A selection was collected for the second exhibition Fragmented Narration.

A selection of the works from Fragmented Narrative where shown in the space.
These works met with works that already were present in the space and the presentation in that way was more an intervention of the space. Artist active in the residency and presented with the selection where Barbara Wagner, Rero an image of the godess of iron,
 photographs where made by Benjamin de Burca.

“Narração Fragmentada” - Curadoria by Sarojini Lewis

Esta exposição mostra construções relacionadas com memórias pessoais com perspectivas de diferentes localizações geográficas. Juntos, eles se referem a um estado psicológico da mente. A maioria dos trabalhos se vinculam a lembranças de família e migração. Alguns trabalhos têm uma visão pessoal de uma memória coletiva ou memória sob a perspetiva do surrealismo. As obras de arte têm uma narrativa visual em que uma memória se transforma em uma nova realidade do artista. O grupo é composto de 21 artistas com base na Argentina, Colômbia, Brasil e Holanda.
Os artistas representantes de São Paulo que irão participar são Luciano CortaRuas, Marina Bitten, Rodrigo Planta Pecci e Tom Gaston com uma performance.
A exposição já passou por Amsterdã e Roterdã, na Holanda.

Sarojini Lewis, artista visual e curadora vive em Roterdã, na Holanda, e foi convidada pelo Estúdio Lâmina a realizar esta mostra nômade 'Fragmented Narration' aqui em nosso espaço. A curadora estará presente na abertura antes de ir para o Rio de Janeiro para realizar uma residência artística no estúdio de arte Capacete. No último dia desta exposição Sarojini fará uma leitura de poesia de seus próprios poemas refletindo sobre momentos íntimos da vida diária. Esta leitura faz parte de um conjunto de performances que começou em Buenos Aires em 2012.

A exposição itinerante vai ser apresentado ainda no Rio e, em seguida, na Colômbia e no México.

"Fragmented Narration "

This exhibition shows constructions related to personal memories with perspectivees of different geographical locations. Together they refer to a psychological state of the mind. Most of the work is connected to memories of family and migration. Some works have a personal vision of a collective memory or memory mixed with surrealism. The artworks have a visual narrative in which a memory transforms into a new reality of the artist. The group exists of 21 artists based in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and the Netherlands.

A selection of the exhibition has been shown before in Amsterdam and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Sarojini Lewis, a visual artist and curator based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, curated the show and will be present at the opening before leaving to Rio for an art residency in Capacete. She will do a poetry reading of her own poems reflecting on intimate moments of daily life. This reading is part of a set of performances started in Buenos Aires in 2012.


The travelling exhibition is gonna be next presented in Rio and then moves on to Colombia and Mexico. The presentations will be shown in different formats and are not all open to the public but  are also shown to artists and curators in the form of presentations with restricted audience.
